Meet the Hazard Unit

The Hazard unit main ranks are codenamed as Zircon for a Branch Commander, Jade for lieutenants and Coals or Opals for privates.

The unit is divided into two main fields of responsibility – protecting the city and keeping order in case of emergency and collecting and analyzing data and materials directly from the Dead-Zone.
The first group is known as City-Troops and codenamed Opals, for the bright colors of their uniforms, meant to attract attention while masses are panicking. They are trained to deal with masses of people and apply first aid, especially for injuries caused by hazardous materials. They are also trained in urban fighting in the case of threats reaching inside the biospheres.
The second group – Field-Troops – are codenamed Coals. Since they work in the charred earth of the Dead-Zone they received this name for their black uniforms and also – according to the unit's traditional saying – because “they shine the brightest under pressure”, as they often encounter various unknown mutants during their research. Coals constantly carry weapons and plenty of emergency equipment.

The City-Troops' ranks are often conclude in Private and Team Leader, and they are all the same rank, only with different responsibilities.
Field-Troops are also divided into Privates and Team Leaders in their small groups, but work under the command of the lieutenant – Jade. The lieutenant's uniform don't differ much from the Coals', and the usually wear a slightly different-colored band bearing the unit's symbol on their arm.
The lieutenant is working under direct orders from the General. Every branch has seperate lieutenants for each type of troops.

The Head of the Hazard Unit – codenamed Zircon – stands at the head of each branch, while the main branch is lead by a General-ranked officer – with the exception of one minor branch where a General insisted on staying in command despite receiving an offer to move to the main branch.
This individual is Vincent LeGrand, more commonly nicknamed “General Hazard” and was specially codenamed "Emerald" for the shade of his eyes.
While the General's uniform are generally quite similar to their lieutenant's, General Hazard carries outstanding identifying objects – such as a bright-green scarf and a yellow helmet – that turned into his trademarks in time.
Even though most Generals and Commanders are busy with paperwork, General Hazard finds the time to go with the Field-Troops on almost every mission, be it practice, routine patrol or something more serious, and often receives negative criticism for being too familiar with his troops.


The Hazard Unit often works with the Serpents Security Unit when on field missions and researching the Dead-Zone, and some elite Field-Troops went through physical and field training with the Serpents.
General Hazard and Head of the Serpents Unit – King Cobra – are also close friends, due to a background unknown to most people.


Other than the unit's troops, other workers occupy the branch headquarters in research and development departments, analyzing data brought from the field for making better respirators and filter and aiding treatment for radiation poisoning. The Hazard Unit offers survival training and instructions for staying in a radioactive environment over a long period of time.
The newest department in the unit deals with the development of new weapons, mostly using radioactive ammunition.
